The “National Bike Bill”, passed by the House in May, is scheduled to be considered by the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, this Thursday, July 31, 2008, at 10 am. Please urge Senator McCain, who is on that Committee, to support this bill.

House Congressional Resolution 305 (H.CON.RES. 305), dubbed “the National Bike Bill” sponsored by Representative Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), passed the House of Representatives on May 21, 2008, and is scheduled to be considered by the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.

Summary of the bill:
It recognizes that increased and safe bicycle use for transportation and recreation is in the national interest of the United States. It supports policies that increase bicycle use. It encourages the Department of Transportation (DOT) to provide leadership and coordination by reestablishing the federal bicycle task force to include representatives from all relevant federal agencies.
