Sechrist Rides! Cycle train

Helmet Ordinance passed 4 to 3 on Tuesday, Sept 15th.

On September 15th, the Flagstaff City Council passed the Helmet ordinance for minors 4:3, with Mayor Presler, Vice Mayor White, Councilmembers Brewster and Swanson supporting, and Councilmembers Haughey, Overton and Evans opposing. The ordinance will go into effect January 2010. There was a sizeable crowd of helmet-wearing public attending the final reading and vote on the law. FBO-supported Helmet Ordinance passes 4-3

Aug 19th, 2010 UPDATE: the City Council meeting of Aug 18th passed the FBO/SafeKids-supported Helmet law for Minors 4 to 3. This law will go into effect January 10th, 2010, and will be preceded by FBO’s ongoing education campaign and the effort to provide low or no-cost helmets to kids will be sustained and enhanced with a possible grant supporting that effort. The City of Flagstaff is considering a proposed ordinance that would require all children under the age of 18 to wear a protective helmet while riding a bicycle on any street, road, sidewalk, bikeway, or trail. The City wishes to promote public involvement and invite public comment. FBO supports this effort. There will be a series of public meetings to consider the ordinance, the first before the City’s Bicycle Advisory

FBO Father’s Day Ride and Brunch, June 21

We continued our annual tradition of a family-friendly Father’s Day event with a bike ride and brunch at the Schultz Creek Trailhead on Sunday, June 21. We split into two great groups of mixed kids and adults, including four fathers with their kids; thanks to Robin Hoff and Dave Needham for stepping up to help lead the groups. FBO Membership Drive almost there!

We have almost reached our Bike to Work Month membership drive goals but we need your help! Bike to Work Week 2009 was a spectacular success.. With 1250 folks pedalling over 28,000 miles, we kept 15.4 metric tons of carbon from the air and burned over 260 pounds of human kibble. Help FBO pass a Bike Helmet law for Minors

Flagstaff Biking needs the support of Flagstaff residents to pass this ordinance that would require minors younger than 18 years of age to wear a bike helmet when biking. The specifics of the law are not ironed out, you can help us by giving your comments and we ask you to provide us with a letter of support that we can present to the city of Flagstaff council. Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day-October 5th

Flagstaff Biking Organization is pleased to parter with IMBA, Clif Bar and Trips for Kids to head up Flagstaff’s Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day. Our ride will be Sunday, October 5th. Meet at Schultz Creek Trailhead at 10am to meet and greet. We’ll leave for the ride at 10:30am. Please bring enough water for a two hour ride and check the weather the night before to bring appropriate clothing.
