It has been 25 years since a new National Scenic Trail has been designated in America. That has now changed.
Yesterday, President Obama signed the Omnibus Public Lands Bill passed last week by Congress. The bill includes the prestigious designation of the Arizona Trail as a National Scenic Trail. Arizona National Scenic Trail efforts have been supported by a bipartisan group of Arizona federal and state elected officials led by Senators John McCain and Jon Kyl and Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. In addition to the Arizona Trail, the Pacific Northwest Trail and New England Trail joined an exclusive group of eight existing National Scenic Trails.
