FBO Youth Mountain Biking Program Sedona ride

Our third Youth Mountain Biking Program ride of the winter was in beautiful Sedona on Saturday, January 12. We had a great group of kids and adults for a long, fun loop. There were no major crashes and five flat tires didn’t slow us down too much. Thanks to Absolute Bikes for the use of their van to carry kids and bikes. Check out pictures from the ride on our

Youth Mountain Biking Program Sedona ride

After 30 rides in Flagstaff this year, we’re heading south for the “winter.” Our first Sedona ride was a great success, with nine kids and three adults besides the program director… and with no significant crashes and only two flats. Thanks to Absolute Bikes for letting us use the big white van (and for last-minute bike repairs) and to Bill Gallen and Ken VonSchulze for driving down with kids and

Upcoming Legislation Could be a Tax Break for Bikes

Some of us have always known it pays to commute by bike– but it could soon pay in cool hard cash– with some luck, a greener Congress, and encouragement from the public (yes, that would be YOU!). Senator Ron Wyden and Representative Earl Blumenauer (both Democrats from Oregon) have introduced federal legislation to give tax breaks to bicycle commuters. Tax incentives for environmental conservation began in the 1970’s with solar

Trail etiquette refresher

Biking, hiking and equestrian season is in full swing and the trails are getting more crowded, especially popular areas like Schultz Creek. Here in the Flagstaff area, we are very fortunate to have such an extensive network of trails open to bicycles. Along with that privilege comes the responsibility to behave appropriately and avoid hurting or offending others we meet on the trail. A bit of trail etiquette and good

Our next pancake ride of the season is July 15th! Meet FBO at the Shultz Creek Trailhead (off Shultz Pass Rd. about 1/4 mile past the Y with Elden Lookout Rd.) from 8:30am to 10am for pancakes! We’ll lead rides for various ages and levels after the feast.

Conclusion of Bike to Work Week

Friday Movie night was great fun: Good thing I don’t live in New York City, ‘cuz I graded my bike lock-up style, according to Hal Grades Your Bike Locking, and my precious Raleigh commuter would be in grave jeopardy (D-) in NYC. In Flag a cable through the frame and rear wheel of my 30 year old 10-speed is probably a B+ and just fine.   Final results for Bike to Work

The Results of the Worksite Challenge

Large Worksite Results It was very tight competition between 3 worksites with the Flagstaff Medical Center Emergency Dept’s 60.0% edging out Bookman’s (58.8%) and USGS Building 4 (55%). So FMC Emergency cruised off with the Breezer Bicycle for the 2nd year running. Congratulations to Mark Wille and his crew at the Emergency Dept.!
