Campbell Mesa Trail Day

2011 Flagstaff Biking Organization Trail Schedule
• Other trail work opportunities around Flagstaff!

Since 2002, Flagstaff Biking Organization has built a successful partnership with the US Forest Service by collaborating with them on Trail Days. These trail development days are sponsored by the Forest Service who supply tools & staff that share trail building instruction and information on overall forest health. As part of the partnership, Flagstaff Biking Organization advertises and plans the event, recruits volunteers, and provides food, water and snacks to sustain the volunteers throughout the day. Thus far, this partnership has been successful by improving, obliterating, or creating significant sections of trails in the Coconino National Forest. The largest event of the year, National Trail Day, has recruited more than 100 people in each of the past four years. In 2008, there were 11 Trail Day events, using over 300 FBO volunteers representing over 2,200 volunteer hours that improved conditions on over 10 miles of trail.

The 2011 Trail Schedule:

This year we are actively seeking out individuals who want to be involved in the trails program at a higher level. Anyone interested in helping run a trail day or having more involvement in this program should contact us through the below email address or form. Also, see the Mobile Trail Crew section for additional trail work opportunities.

We will also be making more of an effort to have projects for folks of all ages and physical abilities, as well as shortening the work day a bit. Our volunteers and partner agencies will scout out projects like pulling invasive species, or shuttling the food and beverages to the event that don’t necessarily require a healthy back and massive upper body strength. Our new scheduled work hours will be from 8:30 am until 12:30 or 1:00 pm, so volunteers will have the afternoon to go ride, (or hike, or run, or otherwise enjoy the trails). Everyone is welcome at these events!

April 23rd, Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew Training, new “West Secret Trail” construction

Please click HERE to see what you’ll need to bring and other important information.

(Schedule and locations are tentative and will be firmed up within the next week or so. 3/24/11)

The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew, Chris and Leslie Kehmeier, will be presenting a class on sustainable trail building and then working with us on the ground at building some sustainable trail. This is a great opportunity to learn all about how trails go from concept to a ride; there’s a lot more to it than you might think! Meet at 8:30 am at the Flagstaff District Ranger Station on Highway 89 across from the Flagstaff Mall.

Join us on Saturday evening for a presentation and discussion on the ins-and-outs and future of freeride, downhill and park riding in the Flagstaff area at the Zane Grey Ballroom in the Weatherford Hotel. (Thanks to the Weatherford for graciously donating this space.) We want to take the opportunity of Chris and Leslie being in town to have them talk a bit about IMBA’s experience, Flagstaff Biking and the Flagstaff Gravity Riders will talk about things we are pursuing and the Forest Service will give a little of their perspective. We all want to hear from you as well about what you might be hoping to see on the ground, and if you have questions about what is being done to legitimize this type of riding in Flagstaff.
