2010 Trail Program
The 2010 Flagstaff Biking Organization Trail Schedule
Other trail work opportunities around Flagstaff!
Since 2002, Flagstaff Biking Organization has built a successful partnership with the US Forest Service by collaborating with them on Trail Days. These trail development days are sponsored by the Forest Service who supply tools & staff that share trail building instruction and information on overall forest health. As part of the partnership, Flagstaff Biking Organization advertises and plans the event, recruits volunteers, and provides food, water and snacks to sustain the volunteers throughout the day. Thus far, this partnership has been successful by improving, obliterating, or creating significant sections of trails in the Coconino National Forest. The largest event of the year, National Trail Day, has recruited more than 100 people in each of the past four years. In 2008, there were 11 Trail Day events, using over 300 FBO volunteers representing over 2,200 volunteer hours that improved conditions on over 10 miles of trail.
This year we are actively seeking out individuals who want to be involved in the trails program at a higher level. Anyone interested in helping run a trail day or having more involvement in this program should contact us through the below email address or form. Also, see the Mobile Trail Crew section for additional trail work opportunities.
We will also be making more of an effort to have projects for folks of all ages and physical abilities, as well as shortening the work day a bit. Our volunteers and partner agencies will scout out projects like pulling invasive species, or shuttling the food and beverages to the event that don’t necessarily require a healthy back and massive upper body strength. Our new scheduled work hours will be from 8:30 am until 12:30 or 1:00 pm, so volunteers will have the afternoon to go ride, (or hike, or run, or otherwise enjoy the trails). Everyone is welcome at these events!

The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew, Steve and Morgan Lommele, will be presenting a class on sustainable trail building and then working with us on the ground at building some sustainable trail. - Saturday, July 17th, 12:00 noon-1:30 pm, lunch, courtesy of Biff’s Bagels and travel to work site. We will be working on the Schultz Creek trail, just off of Schultz Pass Road, about 3 miles in on Schultz Pass Road. (Location will be marked on the road.)
- Saturday, July 17th, 1:30 pm- 5:00 pm, new trail construction, old trail obliteration (if new construction is finished).
- Sunday, July 18th, 10:00 am, group ride with Steve and Morgan from IMBA. Meet at Schultz Creek Trail head.
(If you are interested in participating in the layout of the new alignment on Friday, please email Anthony for details. trails@flagstaffbiking.org We know what we intend to do with the alignment, but this could be a good learning experience for anyone wanting to know more about how proper layout is done.)
Please pre-register here for the event.

We have arranged with Pine Canyon security to stage our volunteers in the Pine Canyon maintenance area known as the ‘old cart barn’ which is right beside the FUTS trail and about a 15-20min walk from the work site where the Loop Trail crosses the Arizona Trail. Parking will be on the pavement adjacent to the large ‘tent and we must park in such a way as to insure access to that building. Pine Canyon security will direct our volunteers to the location and it will be signed the morning of the event. The FUTS trail is a bit muddy right now but passable.
