Trail Building
The only thing sweeter than riding on beautiful trail is knowing you helped build and maintain a premier trail system around Flagstaff. There are many great opportunities to get involved and be part of the solution, not the problem.
Flagstaff Biking Organization sponsors trail construction programs for every style of riding… whether you prefer gentle swooping trails or challenging climbs… we’ve built it all! We follow the rules of sustainable trail construction… do it right the first time and trails need less maintenance.

Trail Ethics:
The best way to keep Flagstaff’s trail users happy is to practice good trail ethics.
- DON’T SHRED! Skidding tears up the trail, exposing it to accelerated erosion, rock exposure and deterioration. Treat that rear brake with respect and prudence.
- Keep the trail narrow–don’t make wide spots wider by going around them.
- Don’t make social trails…they are rarely sustainable.
- Bicyclists always yield to Hikers and Horses.
- Downhill traffic yields to uphill traffic.
- Be POLITE to everyone on the trail. Go slow enough when passing to make eye-contact and say HI to your fellow trail users.
- Don’t be afraid to (politely) remind other cyclists to follow the rules… we all lose when a hiker or horse-rider feels threatened or angered by a cyclist.
