FBO Youth Mountain Biking Program Sedona ride

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

January 12 groupOur third Youth Mountain Biking Program ride of the winter was in beautiful Sedona on Saturday, January 12. We had a great group of kids and adults for a long, fun loop. There were no major crashes and five flat tires didn’t slow us down too much. Thanks to Absolute Bikes for the use of their van to carry kids and bikes. Check out pictures from the ride on our Images page; be patient while the photo galleries load on the page, then click on the YBMP Sedona Ride, 1-12-08. For more information about our program, its goals, and upcoming rides, check out the Youth Mountain Biking Program page and/or contact Neil Ross at 928-814-9792 or neil@flagstaffbiking.org.

Youth Mountain Biking Program Sedona ride

img_2563.JPG After 30 rides in Flagstaff this year, we’re heading south for the “winter.” Our first Sedona ride was a great success, with nine kids and three adults besides the program director… and with no significant crashes and only two flats. Thanks to Absolute Bikes for letting us use the big white van (and for last-minute bike repairs) and to Bill Gallen and Ken VonSchulze for driving down with kids and bikes as well. Take A Kid Mountain Biking!

Friday, September 28th, 2007

copy-of-img_1679.JPGSaturday, October 6 is IMBA’s annual Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day. Because Tour de Fat will be here in Flagstaff on October 6, FBO will lead a kids’ (and parents’) ride on the following day, Sunday October 7. Join us at Fort Tuthill Park for a guided group ride on Soldier’s Trail and other trails in the area. We will split into as many groups as necessary so kids of all ages can enjoy a fun ride at their level. Please arrive by 9:45 so we can meet each other, get bikes ready, and organize groups. We will meet at the first parking area into the park from the southern entrance, across from the I-17 overpass (not the northern entrance closer to town on Rt. 89-A). See you there!

Trail etiquette refresher

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Biking, hiking and equestrian season is in full swing and the trails are getting more crowded, especially popular areas like Schultz Creek. Here in the Flagstaff area, we are very fortunate to have such an extensive network of trails open to bicycles. Along with that privilege comes the responsibility to behave appropriately and avoid hurting or offending others we meet on the trail. A bit of trail etiquette and good manners can go a long way toward making everybody’s experience in the woods pleasant and keeping our trails bicycle-friendly.

Here are a few tips to help minimize conflicts on the trail both with bicyclists and with other users: (more…)
