Moonlight Madness!!

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

This year’s Moonlight Madness ride glowed with 50 blinking, flashing and sparkling riders of all ages riding from downtown to Fort Tuthill Park and back; about 11 miles. We had a beautiful nearly full moon and surprisingly crisp weather for our great, enthusiastic group. Click the Images link above to see some photos from the event (be patient while the photo galleries load on the Images page).

We are already getting suggestions to start next year’s Madness with a barbeque and a band… who knows! Lots of people showed interest in more frequent Moonlight rides… if you would like to help plan and implement such rides, Let US KNOW HERE!

Check out Flagstaff’s Proposed Helmet Law

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

The City of Flagstaff is considering a proposed ordinance that would require all children under the age of 18 to wear a protective helmet while riding a bicycle on any street, road, sidewalk, bikeway, or trail. The City wishes to promote public involvement and invite public comment. FBO supports this effort. There will be a series of public meetings to consider the ordinance, the first before the City’s Bicycle Advisory Committee on Monday, June 29, 2009.

For detailed information about the proposed ordinance, go to the city’s website.

FBO Father’s Day Ride and Brunch, June 21

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

We continued our annual tradition of a family-friendly Father’s Day event with a bike ride and brunch at the Schultz Creek Trailhead on Sunday, June 21. We split into two great groups of mixed kids and adults, including four fathers with their kids; thanks to Robin Hoff and Dave Needham for stepping up to help lead the groups. We came back to delicious hamburgers and hotdogs, fruit, and drinks thanks to TC and Melissa. Thanks to Jack Welch for bringing so much stuff and holding down the fort at the trailhead.

Check out photos from the ride and barbecue.

Thanks to all who organized this event and those whose participation made it so much fun! Rest stop

FBO teams with IMBA for two great events

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

IMBA stuntmanDid you see an IMBA (International Mountain Bicycling Association) Subaru in town this weekend? Anna and Jason, one of the traveling Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crews, came to Flagstaff to meet with local trail builders and managers and to lead a workshop on sustainable trail design and building. On Saturday, they gave an interesting and informative presentation to a full room at the Forest Service office near the Flagstaff Mall, then took the group out to check out nearby trails and to practice trail layout. On Sunday, they rode from Campbell Mesa to Fisher Point, joining the Youth Mountain Biking Program group for several miles at the beginning and end of the ride. Check out pictures from these events on our images page!

Youth Mountain Biking Program’s first Flagstaff ride of 2008!

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

Our next Youth Mountain Biking Program ride will be Sunday, April 13 at Fort Tuthill Park, at the south end of Flagstaff off Rt. 89A. We will ride at 10:30 from the parking/picnic area closest to the park entrance across from the I-17 overpass. Please arrive by 10:15 so we can get started on time. YMBP trips are supervised, instructional rides designed for kids 10-14 of all levels of mountain biking experience; older teens are totally welcome as well. We also welcome parents and other adults who are experienced mountain bikers (i.e., who are comfortable riding challenging trails). Please see the Youth Mountain Biking Program Page for more information and contact Neil Ross if you (or your child) would like to participate in the ride.
