Tour de Fat cruises into town this Saturday, October 6th! A Bicycle Parade will start at 11am from Wheeler Park so finish up those costumes now because there will be awards for the craziest one! New Belgium libations will begin to flow at Noon and will continue until 6pm. Want to volunteer? A few beer-pouring slots are still available for the last shift of 4pm-6pm. Volunteers get a limited edition, Tour de Fat T-Shirt! Email or call Kim at kim@flagstaffbiking.org or call 928-863-0293.

 October 7th- Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day

Flagstaff Biking Organization is once again teaming up with IMBA and Trips for Kids in celebration of youth cycling. Come on out and join the fun! Join us at Fort Tuthill Park for a guided group ride on Soldier’s Trail and other trails in the area. We will split into as many groups as necessary so kids of all ages can enjoy a fun ride at their level. Please arrive by 9:45am so we can meet each other, get bikes ready, and organize groups. We will meet at the first parking area into the park from the southern entrance, across from the I-17 overpass (not the northern entrance closer to town on Rt. 89-A). All kids under 12 will qualify for a bicycle raffle sponsored by IMBA! Contact Neil at neil@flagstaffbiking.org or call 928-814-9792.

October 13th-Trail Day at Campbell Mesa

Join FBO maintain the trails you love to ride! Activities start at 9:30am and will continue until after 3pm. Can’t spare the whole day? Come out for a couple of hours! All volunteers qualify for a limited edition “I built trails in Flagstaff” t-shirt after completing two trail events. Contact Mark at trails@flagstaffbiking.org or 928-214-0106 for more information.

October 13th-Arizona State Road Race Championships

Hosted by Summit Velo, the AZ State Road Race Championships will roll out on Saturday, October 13th. Would you like to be involved? Sechrist Trail Day – October 14th

Coconino County Parks and Recreation calls on volunteers to join the Trail Day to complete the connector trail from Fir to Sechrist Elementary School on Sunday, October 14 from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm.

We will meet at Sechrist Elementary School parking lot. Please wear closed toe shoes and outdoor clothing. Tools and lunch will be provided. We will develop new trails, put up some signs, and clean up some existing trail.

The Sechrist Trail is being developed in partnership with Flagstaff Biking Organization volunteers. It involves construction of a trail on county land that will allow school children to access Sechrist Elementary School without walking or biking along Highway 180. Pedal with Purpose

Pedal With Purpose is presented by the AWPCA Water For People Committee to raise funds to help bring safe drinking water and sanitation to people in developing countries and to promote personal health and wellness through cycling. This year, 2007, will be the first annual fundraising event on behalf of Water For People in association with  El Tour de Tucson.  El Tour has welcomed Water For People as one of its charitable beneficiaries, along with Tu Nidito Children and Family Services, American Parkinson Disease Association and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  Register for El Tour de Tucson here!

Trail Day September 8th-Rocky Ridge Trail

Neil Weintraub helps with Trail DayCome on out and help be a part of the solution!  We all know that budget cuts have slashed the Forest Service’s ability to do everything that’s needed to keep our trails in shape, so come out and help out!  We’ll meet at the lower Shultz Creek Trail head off of Shultz Pass Road at 8:30am.  Please bring your bike helmet (those shovels can hurt if they hit your head! Ouch!) and wear appropriate clothing.  We’ll supply lunch, drinks and snacks to keep your energy level up!  There will be raffle tickets and loads of smiles and joking!  Just look at NATRA President, Neil Weintraub!  Come and spend your morning or all afternoon with us!  Contact Mark Gullo at (928) 214-0106 or email him at trails@flagstaffbiking.org if you have any questions.

“For Pete’s Sake” Bicycle Safety Awareness Ride

Pete BennettOn Labor Day Monday, cyclists from around Arizona will join the Verde Valley Cyclists in a ride to honor their close friend Pete Bennett and all fallen riders.  The ride’s intention is to make a visual statement against the carnage taking place on our streets. It is a chance to mourn those who have been killed. The ride hopes to raise   awareness of bicycle safety and “Share the Road”, “Bikes Belong” signage.
For Pete’s Sake is a free ride and non-supported. All riders are required to wear  CPSC-Certified helmets and obey all Arizona Traffic Laws. (more…)

Walk to School Day-October 3rd

Times have changed but we want to give kids and parents the confidence and reassurance that it’s safe for their kid to get to school. Safe Kids of Coconino County is hosting a Walk to School Day at four elementary schools in Flagstaff. Children across the globe will be walking to school in support of good health, safe communities and a clean environment. Do you want to help?
