Area for Bike Skills Park and Trails Approved at Ft. Tuthill!

January 8th, 2013

We just received confirmation that the Coconino County Board of Supervisors has approved the new Ft. Tuthill Master Plan!

Included in this Master Plan was approval of 3-5 acres of land to be used for a mountain bike skills park. This piece of land is immediately to the north of the new Flagstaff Extreme ropes course.

This success is as a result of cooperative planning by the County with much input from Flagstaff Biking Organization and Flagstaff Gravity Riders. Many other interest groups were involved in the comprehensive Ft. Tuthill Master Plan, which will also include intra-park trails, a trail hub and trail heads and staging areas for large trails-based events, as well as improvements and facilities for various other types of Park use.

There still remains a substantial amount of work to be done before ground is broken on the new skills park. We are currently working on an agreement with the County that will outline the duties and responsibilities of Flagstaff Biking Organization and Coconino County as we proceed with the design and implementation of this project, but the most major hurdle has been crossed.

Stay tuned for more info as it develops.

Thanks for your support!

[...] It is Flagstaff Biking Organization’s/Flagstaff Gravity Rider’s intent to partner with Coconino County Parks and Recreation to have this park be free and open to the public most of the time. There may be seasonal and/or event closures, but generally the facility should be free to use. In order for this approach to be successful, we will need funding to build the park! Coconino County P&R will be taking on the maintenance costs, which are not inconsequential, and we may need to continue to raise money to that end as well, but that will be determined at a later date.
